Hello, I’m daniël. This is my personal weblog. That’s it, really. My latest additions are here on this page but you can search or use the keywords link at the top of each page to find stuff.
they’re = they are
their = their bicycles are all rusted
there = over here, over there we will hit the dusty trail…
Got it? It’s really not so difficult.
That is all
Ok, I finally have to disallow commenting for a time. I’m getting way too much spam. Something on the order of every 20 minutes some new spam shows up and requires deleting. I’ll open it back up soon after i add some anti-spam code.
I’ve bad-mouthed Dell lo all these years only to discover some more positive commentary on their quality. Add to this the availability of Ubuntu on some machines (though seemingly not in the Netherlands or on this particular laptop) and my horrible experiences with HP and you’ve got a recipe for a nice new laptop. Yes. A Nice. New Laptop from Dell. an XPS M1330 to be precise. Lovely 13,3 inch job. Black. Silver. Fast. Big battery. Nice screen. I have already discovered where they cut corners and I can live with a somewhat shorter power cord :-). Shipped more quickly than promised and with a case that was unexpected, too.
Nice.
Ja, this morning - weer geen intenet of telefonie…

So I actually spoke with a rep at orange.nl today. His suggestion to do a hard reset of the livebox seemed, well, odd but workable. Perhaps, he suggests, the livebox is too close to the phone box in the front of the house. What? Is this piece of (apparatus) so poorly made that it has to be positioned just so to work properly? Yes, hes suggests. Ok:
Ok. Did all this and, yes teh connection came back up (telephone and internet). Nice and fast. Not 20Mbps, but near 6. Best so far.
The result of all this? Two hours later, I’m having the same problem. Exactly the same.
Best of all was that today the ‘Customer Survey’ people called to see how it’s all going with my new orange.nl setup. During our 5 minute conversation we were cut off three times making this nearer 14 minutes of survey.
Here are the latest results:

So far I’ve got to say that I’m not super pleased with the speeds I’m getting from my Orange Livebox (20Mbps abonnement). I’ve yet to see over 4Mbps and mostly around what you see below. I’ts frequently slow enough that we get horrible phone service as well. Twice today I had to reset the livebox because there was no connection.
I did speak with a customer service guy who actually called me so it was a free call. His suggestion was to move the livebox farther away from the connection box. Farther away. The cable I got from Orange is already at the limit. And are you going to tell me that Sagem is manufacturing and selling a piece of equipment intended to work in the vicinity of telephone equipment and doesn’t?
Yes, this is a repeat of yesterday, but I also want to make sure I keep a record of these speed tests.
